Minimalism and Snow

Hello! I hope everyone has had a nice Easter weekend.
Where I was (Northern Austria) we had snow a plenty, which meant that I could do plenty of walks with my camera. I have already mentioned the name Olivier Du Tré (http://www.olivierdutre.com) in a previous post, but I will mention him again. I really, really like minimalist design, whether that's architecture, sculpture, photography or even food, so I came across Olivier's website and struck an instant awe to his work. So I therefore thought I might give it a go!

What works really well with minimalistic photography is snow and clouds - they are the perfect backdrops for any photo. So For the next couple of photos I went out looking for the perfect photo opportunities. On Easter Sunday we had had about 10/15 cms snow fall over night, which meant that the only footprints one could see were those of hares, deer etc. So there I am bulldozing my way through the snow looking out for the perfect photoshots.

So what do you think?

And finally (not really minimalist but still worth a post):

Enjoy!!

France (Val de Loire)

Hello!

I hope you are having a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Today's post is on France or, to be more specific, the Loire Valley. Last Autumn I went with the family to various castles scattered across the region, whilst staying at a rented townhouse in the centre of the region - giving us easy access to the castles we most wanted to see. The photos are a collection of the various locations we went to; I tried to vary them as much as possible. It was the first time I have ever been to Loire Valley and what suprised me most was how rural everything was, from the towns to the people. The best part probably has to go to the food (eg. pâté, saucisson sec etc.), which I couldn't get enough of.

Again short and sweet, so now the photos:

Some of these you may have seen in a previous post.
However I still hope you enjoy them!

Spring (hopefully)

Hello!

I hope all is well. Due to the English weather not being able to make its mind up, I thought I would do a Spring special. Last week we had glorious sunny weather, this week we have bitter, biting, snowy winds. So in order to cheer everyone up I thought I would make a post and cheer everyone up.

These pictures aren't anything special, however it gives an insight of what 'The Garden of England' (Kent) is like. So the first photo is one of a nearby orchard, whilst the others are just a selection of flowers in our garden.

And the others...

Have a good week!

Faith and Decay

Hello!

Today's post is a mini project of mine which I did whilst I was in Austria. The series of photos are of an abandoned farmhouse alongside the road. Northern Austria is considered to be the poorest region of Austria - although it is considerably flat, in comparison to Western Austria, hence more area for fields. This house is situated next to a forest, which we like to call the 'fairy tale' forest. I decided to explore the area surrounding the house after riding past it on my bike. The roof has collapsed completely, most likely due to heavy snow, whilst you could still look through the windows and see the interior of the house.

I find the house particularly haunting and thought I will edit the photos in black and white as they seem to portray it better. No one has bought the house and it is possible that it will be knocked down (with the land be used for agricultural reasons).

Here are the photos:

Assisi

Hello!

Today's post is about a photo I took on a trip to Assisi. It was one of the places I visited (with my school) in Italy two years ago. The reason for the low cloud was due to an unpleasant spell of rain. The Basilica is probably one of the best churches I have ever been to. The upper basilica is more spacious vertically, while the lower basilica feels more personal (you are surrounded by the art). The weather, like I said, was not as nice, yet it meant that we could stay longer inside. However when the rain decided to clear up I managed to get a picture of the basilica from above. I noticed that there was a group of clouds piercing through the building, I managed to get a few shots before the chance went, and this one was the best of the lot. So anyway here is the photo:

Corn

Hello!

I've been gradually becoming more and more busy with things to do, so therefore I've been paying less attention towards my blog. Despite this, I've decided that today would be the day I put a post up. So then, today's pictures are of a corn field. This is not just any corn field however, oh no, this corn field is situated by our cottage where we have all the sunsets, therefore creating amazing light, which in turn creates the best opportunities to take photos. Because I enjoy making black and white photos, I thought I would see what it looks like when I apply the same method for my corn field photos. I have chosen three photos, which I personally believe stand out from the rest. The middle photo has a darker tone to the photo than with the others just so I could see, if by doing so, the mood changes. So here are the photos:

Enjoy!

Osttirol

Hello!

I hope all is well. That is lovely to hear. This next post is focusing on Osttirol. For those unaware of where that is, it is situated along the border between Italy and Austria, just above Südtirol. I have probably mentioned it before in a previous post, but this is where you have the view over the Italian Dolomites (which in itself is not half bad).

I like Osttirol in particular due to it not being particularly popular with tourists, like you would get in Südtirol. On my journeys I have been to Südtirol once and Osttirol twice and, although they are both very nice, Osttirol has the better walks and views (food would probably need more convincing). The following photos were taken on our first visit to Osttirol. The best thing about it is that you could rent an alpine hut for a week and then just head off - ten minutes in the car and your there. You get there at 8 o'clock in the morning and return at 4 in the afternoon and just wind down from there. You have your own privacy, not like in a hotel, which makes it extra special.

Anyway here are the photos:

And to finish off... here are some cows:

Enjoy!!
